The Technical Specialist administers and controls organization's data resources through the use of Relational Database Management Systems and/or other DBMS tools.  Works with Programmer Analysts, Data Architects and Application Development teams to ensure data integrity and security, eliminate redundancy and improve database performance.  Responsible for establishing and supporting database backup and recovery procedures.  


  • Works with Programmer/Analysts and/or Data Architects to review logical and physical data models. Ensures that databases meet overall business information requirements and application's functional requirements.
  • Constructs and maintains databases associated with various application development projects based on the logical data model and physical database designs.
  • Monitors and tunes production databases. Provides guidance/training to Data Architecture and Applications Development staff as needed.
  • Develops procedures for database security. Establishes database backup and recovery procedures and trains operations staff as needed.
  • Provides twenty-four hour, seven-days-a-week support for a variety of production databases through participation in on-call responsibilities shared among the DBA staff. In critical situations, this responsibility may require working evening or weekend hours.
  • Prepares project work plans and project time and cost estimates for the manager's review/approval. Leads or oversees work activities assigned to Database Administration staff.
  • Leads/participates in the development and administration of logical, physical and database-specific data standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of and assists in training others in new technologies related to data management.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned. 


  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Services or the equivalent plus a minimum of 10 years applications development experience including a minimum of 8 years experience maintaining relational databases generally required. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills also required. Certifications are a plus.
  • Strong experience with Oracle 11g and 12c including partitioning, compression, TDE, Data Guard, RMAN, RAC, Oracle Database cloning in RAC and Non-RAC Environments, OEM/Grid Control
  • Some experience with SQL Server up to current version including replication, log shipping, TDE, SSMS, SSIS, SSRS.
  • Experience in database design methods and techniques, database security methods and procedures, applications development and support, performance tuning including SQL tuning.
  • Experience with VLDB and HA techniques.
  • Experience with Delphix Data Masking and Virtualization is a plus.
