  • Overview

    The Director - Actuary oversees the ongoing analysis of the cost of care of its members and the underlying trends and changes. This position will be responsible for forecasting financial risk for underwriting, pricing and IBNR reserve analyses. Responsibilities include (a) new business underwriting and pricing with a focus on the post-acute care model, (b) development and modeling of provider risk based contracts, (c) and analytical support for post-acute care product development.

    Responsibilities

    • Manages a small team and the quantitative assessment of risk relating to provider contracts, premium rates and IBNR in accordance to professional and regulatory guidelines.
    • Supports the Post-Acute product sales efforts through providing reporting, analytics and insight to the Sales department.
    • Identifies and analyzes internal/external factors for use in pricing, trending, reserving etc.
    • Builds audits and maintains the Post-Acute Care underwriting model and process.
    • Develops tactical and strategic plans to decrease underwriting projects turnaround time and increase the number of underwritings we are able to process simultaneously.
    • Prepares reports to be used internally and externally which provide clarity of the Post-Acute care expense landscape. 
    • Evaluates and tracks the performance of the Post-Acute Care underwriting compared to actual results once clients are contracted and active with CareCentrix.
    • Works with the Chief Actuary to produce financial reporting to include profit and loss statements for use in evaluating the viability of future business and communicating the expected financial profile to the Executive team.
    • Collaborates with sales and account management teams to establish pricing and product positioning strategies.
    • Prepares financial data and responds to RFPs for clients.
    • Provided financial analytics to clinicians and marketing teams to influence the design and development of products and programs aimed at cost-efficiency, revenue generation and client retention.
    • Works closely with the product and operational teams to align operational expectations with financial modeling.
    • Provides presentations to senior management as required.
    • Establishes and maintains format, structure and preparation process of reports to be provided to superiors and upper management.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Economics or similar field required.
    • Credentialed ASA/FSA required.
    • Minimum of 7 years business experience in the healthcare industry with 2+ years of experience managing professional employees.
    • Experience with Medicaid products and regulations preferred.
    • Strong team building skills with the ability to manage and develop a group of professionals with diverse skills.
    • Microsoft Office Suite experience including but not limited to: Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word. 
    • SQL experience strongly preferred.
